I've had the chance to operate the Kubota U17 for a handful of projects. Its control precision is commendable for detailed work. Maintenance has been manageable with few issues arising. However, I wish the operator comfort was slightly improved for long hours. All in all, a well-rounded piece of equipment but it's always good to consider the scale of the job before opting for this model.

Been using the Kubota U17 on my small residential projects, primarily landscaping and minor earthmoving tasks. It's compact, which is great for tighter spaces. Reliability on the field has been consistent, though I did notice the hydraulic blade hose requires careful handling to avoid snags. Performance-wise, it delivers as expected for its size, just don't anticipate it to handle jobs beyond its class.

Been running the U17-5 a bunch lately and I gotta say, that new thumb control on the joystick instead of down at your foot makes long jobs way less tiring. I never liked stomping that old pedal, always felt like I was gonna break it. Now it's just a finger flick, much more natural, and you get pretty good fine control for the thumb. I did notice it took me a bit to get used to the diverter switch when swapping over to run an auger, but once you figure it out, you don’t have to mess with hoses anymore. Saves time, but sometimes I wish the hydraulic coupler thing was more plug and play. Oh, and maintenance? Still straightforward, same old engine, everything tucked where you’d expect, so no complaints. Not wild about only having rubber track options, but honestly haven't needed steel on something this size. So, good machine, some handy upgrades, makes work just that bit smoother, though it ain’t all revolutionary.

I've been operating mini excavators for years. The U17-5 feels familiar but smarter. The two thumb controls and Ox 1 make hooking up and switching attachments quick. Thumb controls give good precision for digging around utilities and fine grading. LED work lights actually help when I'm starting before sunrise - fewer blind spots on the bucket. Auto idle is handy, it drops revs when I'm holding position so fuel use and noise go down. Foot platform and operator layout are more spacious, so long days are less tiring. Machine feels solid, same build quality U7s had before. Minor gripe: thumbs felt a bit light at first, took a few hours to find the right touch. Overall it's an easy machine to run.

Used the U17 on a landscaping job. Expanding tracks for stability is a massive advantage. Though, I noticed keeping the attachments secured was slightly tricky at times. The increased leg room was a well-appreciated improvement. It gets the job done efficiently without hassles.

Put some hours in the U17-5 digging trenches in urban backyards. It’s definitely a solid mini for tight access work. LEDs help when it gets dark and I like being able to switch between control patterns quick without messing with tools. Seat’s decently comfy, not perfect but fine for this class. That mobile phone holder, honestly, kind of goofy but ended up using it every day. The USB port was handy too. Had no real issues with maintenance so far, just your usual daily checks. Nothing’s broken. Reliability’s never been an issue with these anyway, so not surprised it keeps up. Wouldn’t mind a little more space for my boots but it’s manageable.

Rented the Kubota U17 a couple of weeks ago. The zero tail swing design safeguarded structures while maneuvering in tight spots, a notable advantage. The control layout feels intuitive, especially for those with experience, but the limited operator platform legroom might displease taller users. Reliability seems robust, overall a practical choice for confined area excavation.

The Kubota U17-5 Premium has proven to be efficient in confined work areas due to its zero-tail swing trait. During my usage, the adjustable track width was particularly beneficial, offering stability and maneuverability when needed. However, while the semi-suspension seat added certain comfort, the increased legroom wasn't significantly noticeable for extended periods.

Used the Kubota U17-5 for about 2 months now on residential jobs. I like the extra legroom, it makes a difference when you’re in the seat all day, but let’s be honest, the change is not huge. The suspension seat helps with the bumps, but the cushions could have been firmer. Zero tail swing is a massive plus on cramped sites, hasn’t let me down yet. Controls are pretty smooth, buckets dig in well, I find the operation to be predictable which is all I care about. The thumb switch for the hydraulics is okay, takes a bit of getting used to if you’re swapping attachments. Think the control layout is good but the meter panel being pushed out to the right takes some getting used to. Still, everything feels solid so I’m not worried about it breaking down anytime soon. Fuel economy feels a bit better than the old model but I’ll wait till service time to know for sure.
